SWAA is dedicated to advancing the profession of social work in Alberta by promoting excellence in practice, supporting professional development and the well-being of our members, while providing a platform for collective action towards justice, inclusion and reconciliation.

A community where social workers thrive and work towards transformative social change.

Values Statement

Professionalism, Competence and Justice: We maintain professionalism and competence in our practice, ensuring that our actions are rooted in research and ethical principles.

Core Values

  • SWAA believes in advocating for social justice, standing up for the rights of racialized, marginalized and equity deserving communities and to promote equitable treatment for all  

  • SWAA prioritizes the well-being and support of social workers providing resources, mentorship and has a vested interest to support their success and resilience 

  • SWAA values to working within an anti oppressive and anti racist lens that actively recognizes and addresses systemic barriers and discrimination 

  • SWAA respects, actively seeks and adopts Indigenous worldviews that supports all social workers to work towards decolonization and incorporating Indigenous perspectives into our practices 

  • SWAA commits to promoting equity, diversity, fairness and inclusivity in all aspects of our work. SWAA is open and responsive to ensure that current and future members have equal opportunities. 

  • SWAA is mindful of the pillars of professionalism and competence in our practice. We hope to achieve alignment  in evidence based research, ethical principles and Indigenous and non-Western ways of knowing.
