Remembrance Day Recognition

On the eleventh day... of the eleventh month... at the eleventh hour, we take a moment to acknowledge and remember the brave individuals that have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Their courage and commitment to serve is inspirational and heroic. On this day, we reflect on the lives lost and forever changed, and the enduring contribution of those who fought for peace.

Remembrance Day aligns with social work values by honoring the dignity of individuals, serving others, showing compassion, and promoting peace while promoting community resilience. With these values in mind, social workers have played a meaningful role in supporting the unique needs of veterans and current serving members of the military. Social workers continue to provide essential support for veterans across multiple areas, from mental health and crisis intervention to housing, employment, and community reintegration.

On this Remembrance Day we also recognize the sacrifices made by Indigenous veterans who have bravely served Canada in the line of duty both domestically and abroad. We recognize the unique challenges they faced, both during their service and upon returning home. Indigenous veterans served with unwavering courage and dedication, often drawing on the strengths of their cultural traditions and values.

SWAA encourages you to take a moment on Remembrance Day to reflect on what Remembrance Day means to you and how you can honour those that have served our country.
