Who is SWAA?
The Social Workers Association of Alberta is the newly formed collective voice of social workers in our province.
Why did SWAA form?
The Government of Alberta passed a bill in 2020 that required regulatory colleges, like the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), to cease professional association functions and activities.
This means ACSW still exists. ACSW regulates and governs the social work profession.
SWAA is the new ASSOCIATION for social workers. SWAA’s role is to promote our profession, advocate for what matters, and support social work in Alberta!
What does SWAA do?
SWAA is an association that serves social workers. We’re guided by listening to Alberta’s social workers. We are committed to promoting our profession and supporting social workers and their practice.
Our plan is to offer our members:
Learning and networking opportunities
Resources and services
A place to collectively advocate for and advance social justice
Ways to connect, online and in-person
Recognition of social work successes and innovations
What does this mean for you?
Your social work practice and registration do not change – but registering and connecting with SWAA can make your practice better!
