PaRx is Canada’s national, evidence-based nature prescription program. With a network of more than 13,000 Canadian healthcare providers prescribing nature, The Social Workers Association of Alberta is proud to endorse this nature-health initiative.

SWAA invites social workers to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, by coming together, reflecting on and celebrating the unique heritage, traditions, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
Brain Story Certification
Brain Story emphasizes supporting children and families throughout all stages of development, including prenatal development. It explains how early childhood trauma and toxic stress affect neural connections and lifelong health, leading to issues such as emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, impaired executive function, chronic illness, and addiction.
Canada Pension Plan
The Alberta Government is contemplating pulling Alberta out of the Canada Pension Plan to create an Alberta Pension Plan (Coulter & Zapata, 2024). It is imperative that Albertans learn more about the Canada Pension Plan and the proposed Alberta Pension Plan. Last week, CPP Investments gave a presentation to SWAA members.
Pride Month
Pride Month, celebrated each June, commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a landmark event in the 2SLGBTQ+ rights movement. This month, we honor the bravery and resilience of 2SLGBTQ+ communities while acknowledging the progress made and the work still needed.
National Indigenous History Month
Indigenous peoples have been the original caretakers of this land for thousands of years, and their contributions continue to shape our society in profound ways. The unique and strong connections social workers make with communities provide us the opportunity to encourage all Canadians to join us in the continued learning and education about Indigenous history.
